Thank you for calling

Last night we tried to order a pizza at 8:58. Turns out Godfather’s closes at 9. That’s cool. I’m used to life in a small town. I remember that restaurants here close around 8 or 9.. What killed me though, was the way the employee answered the phone.

“Thanks for calling Godfather’s. Um… we’re closed.”
“I’m really sorry.”

How bizarre to answer the phone when you’re closed. And how odd to apologize for being closed after answering the phone.

There’s a metaphor in there somewhere. If you’re going to answer, be there to help. Don’t be there just to apologize for being closed. I’m sure that’s applicable to other things. I can’t elaborate right now because I’m sleepy and mostly blogging just to instill the discipline of blogging nightly before sleep. So there’s that. I guess this is the “thanks for calling. sorry, my brain is closed” blog. 😉
